60 Days of P90X

After 60 days, I must say I’m pretty impressed with the P90X program…

I know anyone reading this probably wants the bottom line.. so after 60 days

lost 11 pounds and 2 inches off my waist..

there are other things I don’t really have measurements for.. like chest, and arms.. but I can tell you I’ve firmed up everywhere, and get stronger all the time.

While I STILL can’t do all the exercises the way Tony Horton (P90X creator) does, I make progress and have settled into a routine that works for me.

I workout 5 days a week and take the weekends off.. at my age (52 years) I need the recovery time.  I found if I workout 6 or 7 days a week, I get run down and really can’t “bring it” everyday… The 2 days of rest has made a big difference in how much my strength has increased, and my continual progress toward completing all reps on all sets of the exercises.  As a matter of fact just yesterday I increased the weights (for the third time) on the arms and shoulders workout.

I follow the program as far as Strength workout, alternating with Cardio workout, so end up doing 3 strength workouts, and 2 cardio workouts a week.

I also recently stopped having a “recovery” shake after my workouts..  I think it helps build muscle, and certainly helped my energy levels at the beginning, when my body didn’t much care for all this new found activity, but I think my body has reach equilibrium, and now used to the exercise program, so my energy level doesn’t fluctuate as much.

I also wondered if the recovery shakes were slowing down my fat burn??? I know if your losing weight, muscle will be eaten away before fat, but I bulked up pretty good the first 60 days, so a little muscle loss won’t be that big a deal.

I seem to be on a good fat burn now, and still get stronger.. so all is good :)

I’ll write a separate post on what I do and don’t do during my workouts, but if you have seen the infomercial and are saying to yourself ” I can’t do pull-ups” or “I can’t do impact aerobics”.. when I started I could not do a single pull-up, not a one.. and I’ve taken all the impact out of the aerobics.. and STILL continue to make great strides in the way I look and feel.
